Ingredients

  • 1kg beef mince

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 25g ROBERTSON'S RAJAH CURRY POWDER

  • 3ml tumeric

  • 2 slices white bread, crusts removed

  • 1 cup MRS BALLS ORIGINAL CHUTNEY

  • 30ml vinegar

  • 15ml brown sugar

  • 10ml salt

  • 3 bayleaves

  • 300ml milk

  • 3 eggs

Preparation

Step 1:

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Step 2:

Fry onions in butter until soft. Add curry powder and tumeric and cook for 2 minutes. Add mince and brown.

Step 3:

Soak the bread in 60ml milk and mash with a fork. Add 1 beaten egg, chutney, vinegar, sugar and salt. Add this to the meat mixture and mix well.

Step 4:

Transfer to a greased baking dish and spread evenly. Arrange the bay leaves on top.

Step 5:

Mix the remaining milk and 2 eggs and pour over the mince. Bake for 30 minutes or until egg mixture has gone golden brown. Serve with cooked yellow rice. (to do this add 1tsp tumeric while cooking rice. Then add a handful of raisins for extra flavour.) Top the bobotie with additional Mrs Balls Original Chutney and serve with the rice.
